Eric is a very reliable lawyer. We had a case of evading arrest which is considered a felony in Texas, and it was dismissed and reduced to a traffic ticket which was such a desirable outcome. Furthermore, he helped with immigration consequences as well and made sure the case does not lead to any ICE detention/deportation. He was responsive in the whole process and made sure we understood the situation clearly.

After 10 years of not feeling right about the original 5 star review I decided to be honest to myself and down grade it to 3 stars. I wasn’t informed that I didn’t need to show up for pre trial so I showed up per court request and no Erik Platten! I then slipped out of the court room before they called my name and tried calling Mr. Platten several times with no success. After calling his legal assistant and explaining to her the situation he finally returned my call telling me he wasn’t feeling well and to just go on without him……with no representation! What a fiasco that turned out to be! There was ample evidence on the video supporting my innocence where this case should have been dismissed and never gone to the grand jury but it did and I was indicted! I insisted on a jury trial but Mr. Platten encouraged me into a plea bargain for a charge I was totally innocent! Let me tell you it is a terrible feeling to tell a judge your guilty when your not just to make some bogus plea deal. I do owe Eric credit for getting me deferred adjudication “ the plea deal” and because I was a good boy I later received early termination “ one year” of a fairly Intensive Probation sentence all for a false charge I remind you! Eric is a cool guy but cool is one thing, influential power with the local smith county DA and his cronies is another thing. And when you find yourself spun up inside the highly corrupt smith county justice system you’re going to need all the help you can get! Side note: This incident took place 10 years ago and I don’t know if Mr Platten is still practicing but if he is he may have the power and know how it takes to deal with these corrupt prosecutors and judges.
