I had the privilege of taking a class, Interview, Counsel, and Problem Solving, with Professor Gurney. His passion for teaching extends far beyond the courtroom. His dedication to equipping students with practical skills and deep understanding was truly inspiring. The course was thoughtfully structured, engaging, and enriched with insight that has greatly enhanced my confidence and competence in legal practice.

I am incredibly grateful to have had the privilege of learning from Professor Gurney, who is not only an exceptional educator but also a dedicated attorney. His passion for both teaching and practicing law is evident in everything he does. Nick Gurney goes above and beyond for his students, consistently offering his time, insight, and empathy to ensure we are not just learning theory, but also gaining the practical knowledge we need to succeed as practicing attorneys. His unique ability to break down complex legal concepts with clarity and his client-centered approach was the topic of his course and truly resonated with me. Why does a full time attorney teach? He explains to keep his own skills from plateauing, he teaches students as we constantly ask questions and demand him to improve delivery of concepts much like he needs to do with his PI clients. Professor Gurney (who introduces himself as Nick) is a very down to earth, and humble person. Nick Gurney has a genuine desire to equip students with tools that serve our future clients and us, and constantly improve his own skills for his clients. Beyond his commitment as a teacher he agreed to coach a moot court team this semester. In his spare time, he spent hours coaching and supporting three law students as they competed in Washington DC. His coaching resulted in the team finding great success, receiving awards for their brief and finishing in the semifinals. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had him as a professor and mentor. His empathy and dedication to his students and his profession is inspiring, and I know the lessons he’s taught will compound in their impact. Gurney continues to be involved and go above and beyond agreeing to coach me and my team this Spring at a moot court competition at UCLA. I would highly recommend Nick Gurney in any of the many roles he plays in the community, he’s a great professor, coach, and lawyer.

Nick Gurney is a top-of-the-line litigator who I would trust in any high stakes injury case. Nick and his team have the experience and trial skills to take on the largest corporations and most sophisticated defense counsel, and they always go to bat for their clients. I practice law in a different practice area than Gurney Law, but when I need guidance or a second opinion on a trial issue, I know that Nick and his team likely have the answer. If I needed to hire (or refer a case to) a lawyer for a products liability or trucking case, Nick would be my first call.

Prof. Gurney was my professor for both the Fall and Spring semesters at UCF 2022-23. I can honestly say Dr. G wants his students to SUCCEED. Throughout the courses, he is constantly checking your comprehension, and giving you as many resource as well as applicable info possible. He makes learning fun but isn’t afraid to be about business either with the students. I had the pleasure of interviewing him as well for a Law Class based on Legal ethics and civility , and I can honestly say the balance he has between “being able to care” and toughness/mental fortitude made me want to pursue tort law in the future, (hence I took his class that spring). If you ever decide to take any class where Dr. G’s lecturing, take it. You won’t regret it!
