How we compiled this: CrashStory aggregates public Google reviews, Colorado crash records from CDOT and local agencies, and firm-provided profile data. We do not endorse any firm. I really hate to have to write this review but I feel that I must warn others, especially men, about the substandard work of Mr. Kontos. I wish I had read all the reviews of him before hiring him. Yes, he has been practicing for quite a long time but has, ostensibly, only focused on family law for 10 years or so. My situation wasn't great and I knew I would have to pay my ex, as she never worked during the marriage, but nothing near the amount what was ultimately awarded. In the end I would up losing out on about $500,000! I own my own business and make, after taxes and expenses, approximately $100,000 per year. At arbitration, I was ordered to pay spousal and child support to my ex for the next 3 years in the approximate amount of $60,000 per year (after her having received $300,000 in assets) and if you do the math, I walk with $40,000 per year.
The main issue is, he just didn't try and even when things got difficult, not because of me, but because of the situation of her never having worked, he basically told me to go it alone and he would withdraw! I mean, I was at a loss as I had hired him to help me.
The mediation was a disaster, the mediator believed everything my ex and her attorney said with very little pushback from David. The parenting plan looked like an English paper with 90% corrections crossed out in ink by the teacher and then that was all jumbled together with remaining errors and omissions. That was just regarding the parenting plan and now I am an every other weekend dad.
The arbitration was worse, it had to have been the worst arbitration decision the arbitrator ever issued, just given the explanation of the written decision. The arbitrator referred to David's presentation with phrases such as "given the dearth of information" and "given the extraordinary paucity of the information provided by Petitioner (David being my attorney) both in the form of documentation and written presentation under oath, has in some respects relegated the Arbitrator to consider historical, and hence, theoretical application." Additionally, the arbitrator stated, it wasn't his intention to put down, criticize or belittle the presentation but provided how poor it was, he was given no choice but to give my ex about $500,000 (including future support, 75% of the home proceeds, I was to pay ALL debt we acquired during the marriage and pay ALL of her attorney fees). The decision was entirely based upon his failure to provide necessary documentation for the arbitrator's review such as: amount of loan on my vehicle, profit and loss of my business, my credit card debts, my business debts on a monthly basis. I had provided all of these to David and he just plain failed to include them in the arbitration materials or in the actual arbitration presentation orally. I don't know if it was laziness or ineptitude.
All of these failures resulted in my having to file for bankruptcy after the arbitration decision. My ex was essentially awarded what a professional athlete's ex would have been given, and in many instances more!
I simply cannot recommend David, he talks an initial good game but is lackluster in his presentation and frankly just didn't seem to fight or care. I would avoid using him for any family law matter.

Collects money, doesn’t listen to client. Nor does he produce results. Personally produced all court ordained docs.

Thankful for all the support that was given to me during the hard process of a divorce. I highly recommend David and his team!

I am not sure how he has over a 4 star review. He started my case out well, staff was great. But when it came to court, he absolutely lost it!! Would not listen to me, got ran over and backed up on. He lost my case to a drug addicted, DUI, jailbird with zero legal help. I should have stood up and fired him in court and asked for a continuation. But I couldn’t, because he used them all up!!!
If your loved ones mean something to you, I would advise you, in my opinion, go someplace else!
I did not get to hire Mr. Kontos, however speaking with him & receiving him as a referral source & subsequent referrals from him I could assess him to be a kind and professional attorney in family law. He was direct and straightforward and had my best interest even though we had not entered into a client/attorney relationship. The reviews pertaining to his skills as a calm communicator are accurate. I wish he practiced in Pierce as I would have hired him for my needs.
If you don't have alot of experience dealing with lawyers, want a lawyer who, is very knowledgeable in alot of areas, especially family law, with ease in communication to get the right results for your situation, and whether you need to hire them, need help with pro se advice or assistance, the lawyers, David Kontos and Cameron Pearson are the " Right kind of lawyers"!
Never consulted. My review regards the person answering your phone. Try and seem a little polite with prospective clients, and by the way your listed on google as free consultation, not $100.00
