Let me first start out by saying finding Chris Langley was a life saver! When it comes to home ownership, an HOA or Association of Home Owners in my opinion is nothing more than a Mafia extorting "protection" from everyone in the neighborhood. How can this be a group of home owners when all these associations do is try to extort money from hard working people. I personally had a situation that would shock most people. In a new construction community we were required to complete our landscape within a 6 month period. I tried to do this with great efforts however the HOA kept denying our plans stating reasons that did NOT apply to our plans. Like stating pilasters have to be over a specific height, when in fact they were outlined beyond that height. They were causing the delay, which resulted in fines I clearly did not agree with. Those fines I refused to pay, the HOA would escalate to about $3,000 of which they would then place a lien on my title for. A month later they would then add more fines to the fines and instead of removing the 1st lien and place a new updated lien. They would place a 2nd lien with the combined amount as if they were two separate amounts due. This went on until they had many liens. $3,000... $5,000...$6,000... $13,000...then get this, attorney fees $30,000. So I filed a chapter 7 with motions to strip judgement liens. The chapter 7 was discharged and the judicial liens were stripped. This mafia of an HOA ignored the court orders entirely. My house sold and the HOA contacted escrow and Title directly and forced escrow to send them $80,000. Wow, $80,000!!! I contacted many attorneys and none truly understood the situation. Nor did they see how the HOA violated all bankruptcy laws by what they did. I was referred to Chris Langley and within a 10 minute call, he was the first person to know exactly what to do about my situation. He explained he created the case law that proves that all the liens "merged" into the final judgement amount that the judge stripped, meaning the HOA could NOT collect on ANY part of the lien amounts, nor add any fees on top of it based on the discharge. With a few emails to the HOA, he had them write a check for the full amount back to us! Very few attorneys have what it takes to stand up for home owners and protect them from HOA's that believe they are gods and get to do what ever they wish. I can't thank Chris enough. This amount gives our family a path to start over and in the end, the HOA got what they deserved, NOTHING.
