I conference called into this firm to get a consultation with my friend for an upcoming potential case. I clearly introduced the two of us on the call to who I can only assume is his assistant (no name was given). We were transferred to Mr. Bates who proceeded to talk directly to my friend exclusively. After ten minutes of having her case assessed, I tried to speak up, and when I did, Mr. Bates lambasted me for eavesdropping on his private conversation with my friend and directly implied I was violating attorney client privilege by listening in on the conversation. Sir, we announced ourselves clearly to your assistant. You were embarrassed that you didn't realize there was a second person on the line and pointed that embarrassment at me. My friend, who I was there to support, was stressed by the interaction you had with me, specifically the tone and the way you spoke to me, as if I were doing something wrong to her by being on the call with her. It is her right to allow me privilege to be on that call, and she exercised that right. She was quite upset with the way you spoke in that moment, and I believe you realized that in hindsight after I made it clear we announced ourselves as a conference call to whoever answered and brought the call to you. The consultation resulted in about ten minutes of our case being assessed by the attorney, two minutes of him lambasting me, and ninety seconds of him giving some loose legal advice. I would recommend looking elsewhere.
