My wife and I contacted Nico through the MetLife Legal Plan for a real estate matter. After receiving his engagement letter, we noticed it included an additional $375 flat fee.
Because the matter was being handled through the MetLife legal plan, my wife called MetLife directly to confirm whether additional fees should apply. MetLife informed us that services such as consultation, document review, and representation at closing are typically covered under the plan.
Based on that information, my wife emailed Nico and politely asked him to explain the basis for the additional fee. Instead of providing clarification, he responded that it would be “best for us to part ways,” stated that the idea that an attorney would provide “unlimited consultation” under the plan was “insulting,” and said he would close our MetLife claim.
We found this response surprising. The question we asked was simply about understanding the billing and how it related to the MetLife plan. In our past experiences using attorneys within the MetLife network, questions about plan coverage have typically been answered directly and professionally.
In this case, no explanation of the fee was provided, and the representation was terminated after the question was asked.
For anyone using a legal services plan, I would strongly recommend confirming in advance how the attorney handles plan-covered work versus additional charges. Transparency around billing should not be an issue when a client asks for clarification. His actions should be a red-flag for anyone considering his services.

Your "review" is misleading and frankly dishonest. The flat fee for services was disclosed to your wife the very first time she spoke to one of our attorneys on the phone. <br><br>You and your wife were attempting to utilize your legal plan benefit for matters that were far beyond the scope of work that fee was intended to cover. We told you this on two separate occasions. It was only after we told you this for the second time that you began to question the fee (despite being in possession of a 4 page engagement letter that painstakingly detailed every facet of the fee and ancillary services). <br><br>The e-mails you reference inquiring about the fee were hardly "polite." In those e-mails you stated, as a matter of fact, that you were entitled to "unlimited consultation" [under the flat legal fee from your plan], which was not only incorrect but also offensive. This was in addition to the dozens of e-mails and questions you already sent, all of which were responded to. <br><br>We simply did not wish to continue working with you as it was apparent to us that we had very different expectations as to what a flat fee for a residential closing covered. Because of that you are attempting to punish us by writing a negative review.
Jon and Nico are knowledgeable and responsive. They get back to me on all my questions (big and small). I've been a broker for over 20 years and it is a pleasure to work with these guys. I will never go anywhere else for my real estate deals.
I used Jon and Nico for my home sale and their work on my closing was everything I expected. The communication from their office was quick and very easy to follow and understand. They took their time to explain the process and made the process much less complicated and stressful. I would highly recommend Caridi Payne & Associates for any real estate transaction.

I recently worked with the caridi firm. I found them off personal research and their reviews stood out to me. This whole process is new to me as a first time home buyer so I went ahead with the reviews and I am very disappointed. I worked with Timothy Payne. At first the firm was very responsive but as soon as I signed the contract to accept them as my attorney. Their attitude changed. They never contacted, I would always be the one to contact. I will call leaving multiple voice messages with no response. I will email and Timothy will wait till it almost end of working day to respond back. As first time home buyer, I really regret working with this firm and I will never ever again. I guess we learn from mistakes unfortunately it was during my first home purchase (which is a stressful process) now I know better. I do not recommend this form at all.

We certainly regret that you have had this experience. We work with many first time buyers and don't often run in to issues like the ones you mention. Truthfully, many clients have told us that our responsiveness is what they appreciated most. As for Attorney Payne responding to you at (or near) the end of the day when you have attempted contact earlier in that same day, it is important to understand that we are a fairly busy practice; our attorneys are often in closings or in Court for most of the day (and in some cases, the entire day). The only time they may be able to respond is the end of the day . With that said, we will certainly review your matter and see if there are areas where we can improve communication.
Jon Stroebel should have his license taken away.... he gives out client information and case information (we have proof) and he badmouths his clients to other attorneys (and sends fwd email too ... not too bright). STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!

In 10+ years working with Jon, i’ve never heard of any such accusation or anything remotely close. Protecting sensitive Client information is something our firm takes extremely seriously and if you have tangible evidence that a violation of our strictly enforced policies regarding Client information have been violated by any member of our staff, I must insist you produce that evidence as soon as possible.
