As a passionate, educated professional with a doctorate degree, my experience with this company was extremely poor. I would like to advise anyone who is considering in hiring this company, to reconsider your decision especially, if you have limited funds to hire an attorney. I would also like to mention, this review is to educate and bring awareness to those in the Ocala, Daytona and rural areas who may be vulnerable to greedy companies like Defend Ocala, while also being extremely understaffed. Jeff requested $4,000 to work on my family member’s case based on the charges he researched. Upon paying, he requested an additional $2,000 a day later, AFTER we already agreed on the final amount, claiming he would need the additional funds for the extra victim in the case, which was not true. I requested him to send this in writing, explaining the reasoning for the additional cost before I would send anything else. Now, if you go to their website, the mission statement states you will pay a fixed flat fee which will cover everything from beginning to end of the case. However, they can mysteriously request additional funds for work that hasn’t been worked on yet. On day 3, I received a call from Brett introducing himself and claims he would be working on the case moving forward and if I had any questions or concerns to contact him or his assistant , Dawn. The very next day, I contacted Brett and through out the entire week on multiple occasions. No response. I reached out to Dawn who initially tells me she works in family law and is learning on the job to cover someone who is on maternity leave. Dawn couldn’t answer any of my questions correctly. Instead of forwarding my questions and concerns to Brett, she decided to give me misleading information in regards to my family members case. Also, I had to assist her to look up the case because she was having difficulties looking any up. Now if you didn’t know, family & criminal law are 2 distinct legal processes. I mean the level of professionalism and communication was not there. Therefore, I decided to take matters into my own hands and get a second opinion else where. After 2 weeks of hell, unanswered questions from Brett, misleading information from Dawn and money hungry Jeff, this led me to requesting for a refund of the retainer paid. Jeff denied the refund of the difference and couldn’t provide any documentation of work that was done so I could forward to the new attorney. And the reason I requested a refund for the difference was because I requested Jeff to show up via zoom to the first appearance which was on the same day I hired him. Thankfully, I was able to hire another attorney who not only was trustworthy from beginning to end but also answered ALL my questions and concerns, was extremely passionate about their career AND charged less AND was able to get all charges dropped in less than 3 weeks. I can also forward the new attorney’s information if needed. Hopefully, this information/perspective was useful for the next client that could be possibly fall victim to misleading and untrustworthy firms as such.

Brian did an amazing job! I would hire him over and over again! He knew what was importance to us and fought for us every step of the way. He explained everything with ease. I felt like he was our friend and not just a lawyer. He definitely had our best interest at heart. Thanks so much for everything! I can’t forget to mention how much Jeff has done for us as well. He gets back to you with answers to your concerns in a very timely manner and he was able to get us Brian for something that showed up last minute and to help ease our concerns.

I spoke to a gentleman from the firm this morning. He was rude disrespectful and he totally did not even seem like he was interested in even trying to work any type of deal for me. I immediately got off the phone with him and I will not be using this firm at all.

Great communication, comes to the court room ready and prepared for any situation that occurs. Highly recommend for Marion county residents that have any legal situations.

It was all good at first when speaking with them an they made me feel secure ,but now it’s a blame game ..when you call an speak to everyone but your lawyer an they take your number down but somehow lose it than tell you it’s your fault but have your email lol …an Ive still been dealing with my case which they’ve been paid in full as ask …an on top of that I don’t even know what’s going on with my case an I call to speak with my lawyer an I’m rudely treated like a crimal an daughter about I’m the reason they can’t call me but again have my email than the assistant tells me I should’ve show up for court but I thought we pay our lawyer to go to court for us .. assistant an the lady who answers the phone are both rude and have given me the worst experience of hiring a lawyer my first time in life I think I choose a public defender before a lawyer at least they show up an keep you updated on your case I’ve ask for for copies of my case to be emailed or mail never was sent just all around hurting experience of thinking they would help an I haven’t gotten any ..they went to court supposedly 4days ago for me but have the nerve to respond quickly to negative comments about the law firm when it’s public smh this is crazy work an than expose all of the people business for the world to see but we are suppose to feel safe within you guys GOD I PRAY YOU BLESSED THESE PEOPLE WITH PEACE AN HARMONY because it’s no way this is the way you treat people who pay you hard earn money to protect them if they are innocent
