I contacted Scott for a consultation after a very complicated motion to enforce in my case had gone sideways with a previous attorney making lots of mistakes. I was left picking up the pieces and representing myself, so I was looking for someone experienced and realistic about whether they could step in.
Scott was extremely upfront and honest from the start. He explained that he already had a heavy caseload and that my matter was more complex than what he had time for at the moment. I actually gained a lot of respect for him for that. Instead of overpromising or trying to “wing it,” he gave a straightforward assessment and didn’t waste my time.
He also provided recommendations for me after I had asked for them and while I wasn’t able to hire him, I would absolutely recommend him based on him being straightforward with me and saying how things are. I’d much rather have that than someone who leads you on or pretends they have the time to handle something they can’t like my last lawyer did.
Scott, and his team are the best there are. They are very thorough, quick to respond, detailed, honest, and they explain every step along the way. Scott's knowledge, and experience is like no other attorney I've ever seen. Scott goes above and beyond to help litigate your case. I can't express enough how thankful I am to Scott for helping me navigate through my divorce. No matter what the issue is, I will never choose another attorney. I know Scott had me, and my family's best interest at heart.
Thank you Scott, and team!
Scott was the greatest! He saved me on a number of occasions during my divorce. Thanks to him, and his herculean work, I was able to navigate a tricky divorce. Forever thankful.
I was charged with 57 misdemeanor charges and Pleasant Grove city couldn't find a public defender that wanted to defend me. So they hired Scott Weight for my public defender how is that?
I highly recommend Scott Weight for divorce proceedings. He handled my case with incredible efficiency and focus. From day one, he didn't mess around, immediately sending papers and keeping the process moving quickly. His Communication was excellent. He always explained each step clearly and responded to me promptly. Best of all, he was incredibly cost effective and didn't even use the full retainer, refunding the unused portion. I had a truly professional and stellar experience.
Scott Weight is absolutely amazing.
He doesn’t mess around.
He and his assistant really knocked my trial out of the park! I’m still in awe of how professional he is and didn’t miss anything!
He asked all the right questions and got to the important parts of what really matters.
He took the worry out of my divorce and I honestly can’t explain how grateful I am for him. I really got the best of the best when I retained him. So lucky to have found him. I don’t think my outcome would have happened with anyone else I talked to.
He knows how to cut out what doesn’t matter and get to the point.
He really really fought for what was right and put his full efforts into it all.
You don’t understand throughout the process what might happen as you prepare and then when it came time, He really surprised me how well everything we prepped went together and just blew my mind how sharp and knowledgeable he is of the laws and what the judges expect.
He knows his job inside and out and is absolutely amazing at what he does.
I couldn’t be happier. Worth every penny!!!!
I’m proud to say I found the best.
I can’t thank you enough, Scott!
Used a child's Autism against him when the child came forward about abuse. I sat in a case Scott was working on where a family was deciding custody for an Autistic child. The child claimed abuse from a step parent and did his best to communicate it to trusted adults despite being Autistic. I watched Scott Weight use the child's Autism against him in court claiming he was just anxious and probably made it up despite clear evidence of therapy the child had gone through and a restraining order that stated abuse had taken place. Scott made the focus of the case to disprove the child's claims and not focus on his safety during custody. Completely unethical to watch from any attorney but especially in the case of a young child on the Spectrum. Devastating to see him fight in court to disprove the child's experience instead of focus on the child's safety when figuring out custody. If you have children on the Spectrum or are on the spectrum yourself, I encourage you to find a different attorney to represent you.
Owner response
It is unfair for nonclients to leave bad reviews, and it does not reflect on the quality of service the client was provided. Mr. Weight entirely disagrees with the context of this review. When the opposing party or his/her family and/or friend(s) leave a 1 star review, the client would likely be leaving a 5 star review
Unfortunately, my experience with Scott Weight was very discouraging, disappointing and emotionally damaging.
I waited to post this review until my divorce was finalized with a different attorney at another law firm. I felt it was important to go through the full process and gain a better understanding of what a healthy, professional lawyer-client relationship should look like—especially during something as difficult and emotional as a divorce. Now that I’ve experienced what real support and advocacy looks like, I feel it’s important to share my experience with Scott Weight.
As a client going through my only divorce and obviously not knowing much of anything about the process of divorce, I relied on him to guide me and help me feel prepared—especially for mediation. Instead, I was left completely unprepared for a very critical moment in the case. When mediation didn’t go well, rather than offering support or taking responsibility, he very harshly blamed me and was extremely disrespectful, even raising his voice while he lectured me on how it was my fault that I was so unprepared for mediation.
I was criticized and belittled during one of the most vulnerable and painful times of my life. Rather than easing the stress of the process, his behavior made everything more overwhelming, which raised my anxiety quite a bit and caused quite a bit more suffering. A divorce attorney should be an advocate and a source of support—not someone who adds to the emotional burden and blames their client for their own mistakes. It seemed to me that he simply didn’t want to do the work it takes to help his client be prepared for mediation. I am disabled and unable to work more than 15 hours a week and in the end Scott charged me thousands of dollars, which I definitely can’t afford and he had only made my life more difficult rather than trying to do right by me in any way. In my opinion, what he did to me was completely unethical. I definitely would not recommend anyone work with Scott Weight based on my traumatic and expensive experience.
It is very unfortunate that he was able to get away with this kind of treatment and still force me to pay him in the end.
I don’t leave reviews lightly, but Scott Weight and the team at Esplin & Weight deserve every bit of this five-star recognition. Regardless of the outcome, I had already made up my mind to write this review — because this firm fought tooth and nail for me in every way I asked them to.
While I can’t speak for every case they take on, I can speak for mine — and from start to finish, I never once doubted my decision to retain Scott and his team. They never sugarcoated my situation or fed me false hope. What I got was transparency, integrity, and the kind of fierce advocacy you want on your side when things get real.
If you choose to retain this firm, expect to have a warrior in your corner. I did, and I’ll never forget it. Should I ever need legal assistance again within their scope, there will be no hesitation — it will be Esplin & Weight, every time.
Thank you, Scott, and thank you to your team — from the bottom of my heart.
