DO NOT use this firm. I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with Workers Comp Golden State was damaging enough that I feel obligated to warn others.
They operate as a case mill, taking on far too many clients to give any individual case proper attention. I went months without temporary disability benefits that I was entitled to, and they never once fought for my rights. I was consistently pushed aside and ignored.
The moment I switched attorneys, everything changed. My new attorney secured everything I was owed and more, quickly. That contrast alone speaks volumes about the negligence I experienced at this firm.
If you are suffering from a TBI, I especially urge you to look elsewhere. This is not the firm equipped or willing to handle the complexity and urgency that comes with a brain injury.
The impact this office had on my life is something I cannot fully put into words. If you are injured and vulnerable, please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. This firm will not advocate for you unless there is something directly in it for them.
Love Them ! They took my case and treated me like family ! Kept me updated every step of the way. Won my case, and made sure I got Compensated! Life is much better after Golden state Stepped in !

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us this awesome review!
I had the pleasure of working with Chris, Royce and Ryan as they assisted me in my workers compensation injury settlement. They did their best, going above and beyond to keep fighting for me to get the best possible outcome, even going as far to double their initial predictions for the settlement. They were able to make things incredibly easy for me to understand, which I consider a feat given how stressed I was to touch anything legal-related (I always thought there would be too many things to keep up with, which is a nightmare when you have the autism-adhd and anxiety combo). They also made things convenient, taking care of everything so I could have as much of a stress-free time as possible. They were there when I had a flurry of questions and were fast at getting back to me via email. Most of all, they were kind, which is, I think, the best thing you can be.

Lindon, thank you for taking the time to leave this kind 5 star review. We all appreciate you as a client and it was our privilege to serve you. Be well!
When I signed an agreement to be represented by this firm, i was under the impression they did not have attorneys who specialize in workers comp law working in San Diego? It seemed to me that most phone calls went to and came from the Oakland office. I never met with my attorney in person, but agreed to have my case heard in Oakland.
My advice: hire an attorney on a referral from somebody you know. Make sure that your attorney has a physical presence in San Diego, and that you meet with him/her in person.
Workers Comp law seems straightforward - but there are a lots of nuances involved. For example- having a good working relationship with doctors in San Diego. An established local attorney should know which doctors are pro-patient, and which tend to side with the insurer.
I had a straightforward, uncontested ear injury, resulting in partial loss of hearing. The insurance company is allowed to propose three QME doctors, and from that list GSWC agreed to have me examined by an MD, FACS specializing in ophthalmology. They did so without reviewing the medical options with me, or speaking with me to explain the process. This doctor was located more than two hours from me, and therefore I had to take a day off PTO in order to make the appointment. Even after calling into GSWC office and letting them know that my appointment was with a doctor in the wrong medical specialty for my case - they assured me that everything would be okay.
Based on this QME assessment, my claim was rejected because the selected QME doctor didn’t have the credentials to assess the type of injury I had sustained.
Based on my experience, I would not agree to have a workers comp case heard outside of San Diego by this firm. I understand that there may be more than one lawyer there, and other clients may have had a different experience. I am just expressing an opinion by saying that my experience was not positive at all.

Due to attorney, client privileges I cannot respond to this negative review properly. But let's just say anybody who's reading this stop by our office any time the address is on the website. It is true that we have a PO Box in Oakland that we get all of our mail, but we operate in several locations. If anybody is reading this, go and look up the biggest law firms in California and they all operate with PO boxes. I'm attaching a link to the California bar association search page to make it easier for you. https://apps.calbar.ca.gov/attorney/LicenseeSearch/QuickSearch.
Royce and Ryan were very professional and answered all of the many questions we had, they let us know throughout our case any status updates. I would recommend them to anyone who is in need of an attorney with a worker’s compensation issue.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us this 5 star review. We appreciate you as a client, thank you for trusting us with your case. It was an honor to work for you. Be well!
Royce, Chris, and the entire team were exceptional. Attorney Ryan truly went above and beyond to secure the best possible outcome for my settlement, despite the challenges posed by Sedgwick, which was quite frustrating. Golden State Workers Compensation helped me stay grounded during a tough time. Although I lost a lot, I gained some wonderful friendships through this experience.
I highly recommend this firm to anyone facing a difficult situation after a workplace injury. Their empathy and support are unmatched. They dedicated three long years to my case, and while the financial outcome was modest, their focus was always on advocating for injured workers like me. Even after my case was settled, they continued to look for ways to assist me.
Chris, Royce, and Attorney Ryan genuinely have your best interests at heart. They treated me not just as a client, but as a friend, fighting tirelessly on my behalf, especially against the challenges posed by Sedgwick.

Romelllo,

Thank you so much for your kind words and 5 star review. It was a pleasure to serve you and your family. Best wishes and Happy Holidays!
Never once talked to an attorney. They have a lot of non-attorneys handle your case. When you call them about a letter you received from your work comp carrier, they know nothing about it and ask you to send them the letter you received even though the carrier notes it was sent to them also. Go elsewhere. Don’t be fooled by their initial politeness and how they prioritize you. You will be ignored, rather than represented.
A recent free consultation with Golden State Workers' Compensation was a positive experience. The team was professional and attentive.

I had the pleasure of being assisted by Sabrina the receptionist of Golden State Workers Compensation, and my experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I called, she greeted me with what I could only imagine was a warm smile that made me feel welcomed . Sabrina was incredibly attentive and took the time to answer all my questions with patience and clarity.
Her compassionate demeanor and outgoing personality made the entire interaction enjoyable, transforming what could have been a stressful phone call into a positive one. It's clear that she genuinely cares about helping others, which is a valuable asset in a busy law firm environment.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Chris Cahilig at Great State Workers Compensation, and I can say it was one of the most helpful and reassuring consultations I’ve ever had. We talked for over 30 minutes, and during that time Chris really took the time to walk me through every detail of my case.
What stood out to me most was how genuine he was—Chris wasn’t trying to “sell” me anything or push me into decisions. Instead, he listened carefully, gave me clear and practical advice, and made me feel confident about my workers’ compensation case moving forward. He explained things in a way that was easy to understand and offered insight that I know will truly help me as I navigate this process.
I left the call feeling supported, informed, and optimistic, which is exactly what I needed. If you’re looking for someone who will not only advise you but also care about your situation, I can’t recommend Chris and Great State Workers Compensation enough.
After getting hurt on the job, I needed a firm to help me with my Workman's Compensation case. Golden State Workers Compensation was that firm. Robert and Ryan Davis along with Royce and other members of their staff did a great job of making sure my case was taken care of and didn't fall through the cracks. They got me a great settlement and I couldn't be happier.
Thank you, Golden State Workers Compensation, for all the help you provided in my case, from beginning to end, both to the lawyer and to all the workers in your office, especially to Itzel Gonzales for all the help, communication and patience she had throughout this case. I really appreciate it and thank you again.
