Derek Johnson was very easy to work with. Our situation did not fit into a cookie cutter- Derek made sure all of our questions were answered and fostered a collaborative process from start to finish. I would highly recommend working with Derek to anyone.
We were directed to Derek at Gravis Law for our estate planning documents. The process was easier than I could have ever expected. Derek provided us with the documents to review and edit; we had several phone conversations to work through some details that needed to be refined, and the entire process was clear and easy to understand. Without reservations, I eagerly recommend Derek for your estate planning.
If you have MetLife legal plan, I wouldn't bother wasting your time with Gravis Law. I unfortunately wasted about three months trying to work with William O'Connor, but was clearly not enough of a priority for them. After signing an engagement letter (to update all of my estate planning documents) in early July, he has completed absolutely nothing for me. In fact, I had to reach out multiple times with no response and William only recently responded (literally to just say he's been busy with higher priority clients) when I asked that my case be escalated to his management and reassigned. I'm done and I'll pass. Time to look for another lawyer where I am an actual priority.
I will say, I had a kickass lawyer in the beginning. That I believe got promoted. I got put with another lawyer who I wasn’t very pleased with. Seemed like she was working for the opposing party. I would address my concerns and they got shot down immediately. I spent 12k for things my first lawyer had already done. We were never on the same page and it felt like it was because she wasn’t willing to see things from my angle. Until I asked her to withdraw from my case after her telling me “we wouldn’t work past 2500$” then like magic I was down another 1700$. (Her attitude vanished and her demeanor was entirely different). We had a hearing and the judge literally didn’t know we had it scheduled. And I got charged 2hrs for that. So that was awesome. Poor planning. Works for herself, not who’s paying her. But her paralegal was badass as well. She actually took time to understand me.
If it weren’t for my first lawyer, the paralegal and the nice lady at the front desk. I would give this place a zero. And encourage you to go somewhere els orrrr definitely just do not use the lawyer I had. It’s unfortunate that 1 person can tank an entire establishment. I guess my rating only goes to 1 person here. But it definitely feels like I just handed 12k to a paper shredder.
10k down the drain. Won’t say who but I’ll say they forgot key evidence to my case that I was bringing my ex wife to court for and it bounced back at me and now I’m dealing with the repercussions of it. Also, when asked for reimbursement, they informed me they thought it was going to go that way, so it didn’t matter anyway. But the whole reason I took my ex-wife to court was because of this evidence that was never submitted.
Owner response
We are always disappointed to see a 1-star review. Thank you for your perspective and feedback as we continually strive for excellence.
Austin and Chelsea are amazing women. They handled my case professionally with integrity. I am so thankful to have them in my corner as a support system to my case because they not only made sure my children received what was in their best interest but they also listened and took all of my concerns into consideration to make sure my children and I received the best outcome for our situation. I would strongly recommend their services to anyone because they truly care about your needs.
Owner response
Michelle, thank you so much for this review of your experience working with Austin Theis and Chelsea Hammer. Thank you for the opportunity to support and advocate for you and your family. It is a pleasure to serve.
Gravis- specifically Austin Theis and paralegal Chelsea Hammer are phenomenal. They helped me get the protection I needed while pregnant, vulnerable, scared, and leaving a domestic violence situation. They went above and beyond to get me all that I asked for and more. Austin was extremely intelligent and knowledgeable, her interactions with the judge were logical and level-headed. In contrast, she made the opposing council look like the bully he was. I highly recommend this firm and Austin specifically for complicated civil matters.
Owner response

Gravis Law Team, Senior Attorney Kim and her paralegal Cat, have made a very difficult and emotional process absolutely bearable! You will be grateful for their skill level, experience and their ability to be relational with you as a client. This is the team you want to represent you in hard circumstances. Their counsel has been effective and accurate.
