When my son was 11 years old, I attempted to obtain SSI income due to to my son's chronic medical conditions. I gave up after receiving a couple denials. My son was really sick at the time, and the entire process was complicated and very overwhelming. Last year I made the decision to try again. He was now 20 years old and a priority was to obtain income to assist with living and medical needs. Again we received two denials. The process was still very cumbersome and it was difficult navigating through 'the system'. An attorney was needed to represent him for the next level of appeal as his case was presented to a judge.
