Similar to what other reviewers have mentioned, this man never answered any of my calls, emails or texts after paying the initial retainer fee and thus caused me a lot of difficulty with the legal ramifications of not having any representation when I needed it.
Eventually I just got another lawyer who actually does their job.
My son’s court date was today and has been reset for next month. Not sure if this is good since this is all new to us but I’ll update review accordingly. Hoping to have an outcome next month since he lives 4 almost 5 hours away now.
Update: Here we are 6 months later and we have had TWO no shows from Mr Paine!! Last court hearing was September and my son was advised he would be placed on Pre Trial Diversion. I emailed Mr Paine yesterday (Nov. 18th) to see if he needed to be in court. He immediately responded and asked if the PTD paperwork had been completed. I emailed back around 9 something am and then again at 11 something am stating he had not received any paperwork. There was no response from Mr Paine. We arrive today in court and he is no where to be found. We had to wait almost 4 hours for all cases to be done for them to reset, AGAIN. Now, while waiting I am told that this PTD could have been done the first announcement which was back in May! Not only that, I was told to contact the DA’s office regarding the PTD paperwork. I make the call to the DA’s office and they have no record of my son’s information being submitted to them!!!!!!!! Luckily the lady was really nice and looked him up and saw that he is to be setup. She was nice enough to say she will get the ball rolling and have someone from the prosecutor office contact Mr Paine. When I say it has been a NIGHTMARE dealing with him, it has! He barely communicates with his clients, it’s like pulling teeth to get a response at times. We live 5 hours away, common decency would have been to respond and let us know he had not submitted the information yet or told whatever lie… but to let us drive yet another 5 hours is ridiculous! Like I told him via email, this has taken a toll on me physically and mentally. If you want to be left guessing, having your case reset for no reason, then sure retain him! I plan on taking my complaint higher up to the board because this is unacceptable and unethical!
As I’m typing this up, he emails and says “I’m sorry he does not live where he got arrested and asked if we contacted the DA office for the paperwork” what a complete joke!
I had put myself in a very difficult situation a couple years ago, and had hired Hank very shortly after my arrest. Moderate rate for the charges they were, and he allowed me time to make payments after hiring him. When my case was finally up for plea, Mr. Paine exhausted every avenue to get me the best deal possible on two charges. Represented my case extremely well in court. Got one of my charges completely dismissed, and deferred the other. I am extremely grateful to have an attorney that not only was the Denton County Prosecutor for over 20 years, is well versed in law, but has been working with these judges forever! If you catch a case in Denton County, you want to hire Henry Paine!
Stay away from this guy. He doesn’t work for you. He works for the prosecutor. He doesn’t respond to your text or phone calls. He will do nothing but reset your case until you are forced to take the prosecutor’s crappiest deal or go to trial. I fired his butt got me a real lawyer. And got a really good out come. Hire a real attorney not this fly by night. You can’t even find an office where he conducts business from.
We had such an excellent experience working with Henry. We greatly appreciated his outstanding efforts in helping us through a challenging experience. I highly recommend him! Thank you so much Henry!
Hank Paine jr.
Hank did a wonderful job on get me off of bogus charge. Hank is really good. Attorney well worth the money paid take my word for it is two thumbs up in my book even with a cowboy hat lol I wear a cowboy hat to.
Didn’t ask any questions about my case other than what type like DUI or assault or? Then just gave price and if I was interested. Call took like 2 minutes and I never received anything afterwards. I tried calling back twice and no call back despite showing interest.
Edit: In response to your response.. There’s no confusion, it’s 100% you and thank you my cases turned out well.
Owner response
Ryan,<br>I think that you have me confused with someone else. I went back through all messages and did not see where you called my office. I hope that your case works out well for you.
We have called his office over 7 times to speak with Mr. Paine but still have not talked to him about our case. We keep getting told that one of his staff members will give him the message. But come to find out that his staff that we have talked to. Don't actually work in his office they are remote. So they don't know when he is actually in his office ever. I don't see how an attorney has a business when he doesn't communicate with his clients. He wouldn't even take any of our current information when we were trying to give it to him. I am very disappointed with Mr Paine.
Owner response
There is a warrant out for your friend who failed to show up for court. As his court appointed attorney I hope that he will turn himself in soon.,
Mr Paine has been my son's public defense attorney.
Although he couldn't walk on water and just get my son out of prison, he was able to negotiate his time down and for that I'm grateful. Considering PD's are tremendously overworked and underpaid when it came time for my son to go to court, Mr Payne did what he could, went above and beyond and got my son a fair deal. Thank you Mr Henry Paine for everything!
Our family was blessed to get Mr. Paine as our son's defense attorney. Henry's years of experience really made all of the difference in court and in the result of our son's case. Henry has two of the best qualities for an attorney; knowledge and heart. Our family would like to express our gratitude for the excellent work and time that went into our son's victory. Your experience and knowledge knew what to do and your heart took the time to do it and for that we are grateful.
We pray continued success for you,
The Carter Family
