In January 2025, I hired John Hicks at Omnus Law to amend my child custody agreement after moving states and to pursue an increase in child support. I paid $6,000 upfront and was assured the case was straightforward. I never actually spoke with John Hicks. Instead, I worked through Philip Strauch, who made strong assurances about the case and set expectations that were never met. Shortly after, I learned Hicks had left the firm, became unreachable, and was ultimately no longer practicing. Despite this, Omnus initially told me I needed to continue trying to contact him myself. Months later, the firm re-engaged and reassigned my case to Edmund Karam, a newly licensed attorney. From that point on, communication became inconsistent and unreliable. Emails and calls often went unanswered, and it was frequently unclear who was actually responsible for my case. Critically, I was told my case had been filed in January 2025. Based on that information, I made legal decisions—including rejecting a settlement offer that did not include back child support. At a court hearing in 2026, it became clear that nothing had ever been filed. Because of that, the court would not consider child support at all. The hearing was limited to issues raised by opposing counsel, and my attorney was unprepared to address even basic elements of the case. As a result, I lost the opportunity to pursue back child support and now have to start the entire process over from scratch. Despite multiple attempts to resolve this directly with Omnus Law—including speaking with Dave Turcot, who promised follow-up that never happened—I have received no meaningful resolution. This experience cost me significant time, money, and opportunities to secure financial support for my children. I’m sharing this so others can make informed decisions before trusting this firm with their case.
