I have encountered many attorneys over my 69 years on this planet. I have worked for them, faced them as a victim, as a witness, as a juror, and other various scenarios, but never have I found one to rank as an absolute Hero for the people!
I know that is strong wording, but Michael Fuller and his staff are incredible! They genuinely care and surpass above and beyond! I was taken advantage of by a greedy landowner and was facing the loss of all finances my husband and I had left. We were turned down by several lawyers who basically stated the we "were screwed". This incredible Underdog lawyer not only took our case, but had the Landowner offering to settle within the first few months! The settlement didn't make us rich, but provided the losses we had incurred. This amazing office didn't charge us a dime! I couldn't talk them into any compensation be it monies, volunteer work, or anything I could do to repay their time, efforts, and genuine concern while displaying the best morals and ethics I have ever seen in the field of law.
I will never forget them. I will sing their praises to every single person who believes they are too old, poor, or inept when it comes to the law. That they are totally screwed when they are victimized by the bullies in this world! Wrong is wrong! If this firm can help you, they damn sure will! They will always be KEEPERS and role models for the good in this world! I am eternally grateful. Ms. Jay
There was a lack of follow-up or transparency, which did not meet the expectations he had set for himself.
Owner response
I'm sorry you had a bad experience. As I understand it, you messaged with my associate attorney who spoke with me and then let you know we are unable to assist at this time. She provided you the names and contact information for other local specialists. She did not charge for her time. If this is incorrect, please let me know. Thanks!
**Take special notice of the comment left by the "Underdog Attorney". - EDIT120925: first comments erased, at some point their reply was replaced with a more benign denial. Appears they do read and take heed.
As a senior disabled in extremely exigent circumstances, tried to reach out to "Underdog" via his website for an email communication; no response.
I see from the other 1-star reviews similar problems, but what interested me most were the snarky dismissive responses from this self-professed underdog to those who left anything other than a fawning review. Any sincere underdog, who was truly concerned about people, would not be such a reprehensible bully to those who cannot defend themselves.
My worthless opinion is that if an attorney cannot or just plain does not want to take someone's case or help them with their particular problems should just politely say so. It's not THAT difficult to be minimally humane.
For those of you who have got money or can bring in some shiny media attention, you might stand a chance of getting this attorney to represent you.
As with all attorneys, it's about fame, power and money. But for those desperately needing help, when you roll the dice with these sharks, you have to keep in mind there's a high probability you are the one that's going to get bit.
Good luck to all those too poor or disenfranchised, America is on a frightful trajectory. And for those of us at Ground Zero, we're the first to be churned no matter what is at stake; no matter how wronged you've been, there is no "justice" for us.
Owner response
20% of our cases are pro bono and we help as many people as we can at no cost. We are sorry we were unable to help you in this instance.
Michael Fuller was recommended to me by my bankruptcy attorney. After getting assistance from my bankruptcy attorney with setting up communication with this law office, I would experience extreme difficulty. I was told to email one person who then told me to email another. They would only communicate with me via email. And since I have a disability related to communication, this proved to be extremely difficult.
They seemed interested in my case, but after some email exchanges, they preceded to blame my bankruptcy lawyer saying he did not serve the creditor who violated the automatic stay correctly. But yet, even when my lawyer would try to work with this company, they would refuse to follow up with either one of us. However, I was instructed by their intern to continue to send more information each time that the company violated the automatic stay. This was multiple times a month and ongoing. But I guess that was too much.
I would go several months before getting any communication back in return. They out of the blue scheduled a phone call with me last week. I took the time out of my day to take their phone call. After 30 minutes past the appointment time, I called their office to ask what happened. They stated that they were “backed up” and they would “get back to me shortly.” They did not.
I rescheduled with Kim for the following week via text message. I would receive another phone call later that week asking if I could reschedule. I asked them to check the calendar to confirm my other appointment. It seems as though their office lacks coordination in communication with one another.
I asked how long would the phone call take. They told me 15 minutes. So, in other words, I was able to conclude after sending them information for months and months, they were no longer interested in my case. They expected me to take two hours out of my day to sit around after hearing nothing for over seven months just to be canceled over the phone with a quick 15 minute phone call.
So, if this is you, I recommend that you ask them to send you a rejection via email like I did. But next time, I won’t wait 7 months or more to ask for such information. They gave me no apology or anything when I told them that I didn’t appreciate waiting over seven months to get rejected. Their only response to my displeasure was to correct me saying that I have four years to file a case against the creditor who violated me after my bankruptcy. No empathy, nothing. So, because it’s four years instead of one to file a case, I’m supposed to feel better about being ghosted for months on end thinking they would work with me but instead, showing me that I wasted my time?
Even worse, I believe they also must have gave me a bad name to the attorney they referred me to. The attorney they referred me to called me last minute to collect payment for a consultation that they would normally do for free. No thank you.
And for my bankruptcy lawyer to say that I was the first one to have this done to me by Michael Fuller’s office in 18 years… I think not! Maybe to one of his clients, but with all the other 1* ratings, I’m sure I’m not alone.
I was very fortunate to have Michael represent me in a case that meant the world to me! His courtroom demeanor is remarkable to say the least. I cannot express how much respect I have for this man, Ms. Emily Templeton and the rest of his staff. Their representation throughout my case was flawless! My case was against two lawyers, and they hired representation! All 3 looked like silly putty in his hands! The jury deliberated for less than an hour and came back with a verdict in my favor! Several of my family members and associates are also legal representatives so I’ve watched a lot of court cases play out but few have I ran across were as good as Michael! I’m just wondering why he just has a 4.8 and out of 5.0 star review?!
I have never in my life been more disrespected or insulted, especially after being asked to explain in detail a traumatic incident, as I was by Emily Templeton. Someone from the office took all of my information, some deeply traumatic, and then called back saying that Emily wanted a consultation and she's so nice and caring and PERSONABLE, what a joke. Cut to next day, she calls, late I may add. Again she makes me go through every single detail that I had already given and she seemingly would have taken a cursory glance at. After all that she proceeded to tell me that she doesn't find cases such as mine "interesting" and that they are "boring" and "a lot of paperwork". She said she had no desire to even read anything related to my case. I guess since my case wouldn't be likely to make the news, it makes it not worth her time. It's all well and good to turn away a case but have some class and decorum when you do.
Congratulations read of your LEGAL advice on CIVIL RIGHTS and racial profiling along with Discriminative intimidation experiences we African American citizens have church to learn from.
Its difficult living in different colors of people. We make a difference for all if we care.
I care for Oregon too. Thanks Oregon NAACP'S 2024/2025 MEMBERS. ME, kenn,
I like to give a special thanks to Michael Fuller , Emily Templeton, and your team for such amazing work with such difficult people in my case. Underdogs we are!
I wanted to take time to thank your office for being willing to take on a case, even though we had trials and tribulations with communication with the landlord and their attorneys. They violated many rules and regulations by showing up in small claims their Attorney. Knowing he was not Supposed to show up and even so he was able to file papers to take me to civil court. The evidence I supplied, the photos , and all the information I gave you was so accurate. We made it to a VICTORY.
Thank you and I appreciate all you have done!
UNDERDOGS we STAND! Love it!
Thank you for assisting me, and thank you for believing in me and taken this situation that was so difficult and confusing with a bunch of lies and confusion to a victory of the truth with the evidence that was supported by me, and you supply it into the courts and gaining a VICTORY!
You want these guys on your side, that's for sure. Michael and his team were kind enough to give me not one, but two FREE consultations, and one of them was even after their working hours. I was given good advice and my anxieties went down so much thanks to the thorough information provided. Michael and his team work for the people and are firm, professional, and so wonderful to work with.
If you're being harassed by shady debt collectors, just call The Underdog lawyer. Their team really puts in good effort to truly help people and not just for the money. 100/10 stars if I could.
This review is as to his character, and not to his office"s skills in providing proficient legal services.
I rarely need to hire an attorney - I am able to win my cases without an attorney (I was briefly a bar member in another state until 43 years ago tragic life events made me detour).
I contacted Michael Fuller, thinking that he might see the value of my case (which could be a high profile one), and could offer pro bono assistance. Our backrounds are similar (mine a little worse, actually).
Instead, when I sent him a message through his website, I was ghosted. No acknowedgment. So you might know what to expect.
Ask yourself if your case will offer him money or fame? Am I right in thinking that the proper thing for him to do was to reply - sorry, not available?
My litigation is progressing fine without any legal help (but painfully time consuming, doing my own research).
Check his rates compared to the average for Portland attorneys!
If you get ghosted, like I did, there are resources for those without funds. Do your due diligence.
I'd be surprised if he doesn't defend himself here by mailgning me. I'm willing to bet against that!
20% of our cases are pro bono, meaning free of charge. Our pro bono tenant rights clinic is exclusively dedicated to helping defend the poor.

More likely, you were told that we cannot accept your particular case, either because we don't handle your specific issue, or because we simply don't have the resources to help every person who contacts us.
