I just want to take the time to thank Alasia Dalton for the amazing job she did on my case..I’m glad god chose you for the job thank you so much for lifting that weight off my shoulders, and now I can move forward in my life to be a better person and just grow for my situation..it’s been great working with you I’m great full and thankful that god lead me to Robert James… from the moment we spoke I knew I was in great hands.. thank you so much for working with me..I couldn’t find anyone to work out a payment plan that would take my case but you made that happen for me and I’m forever grateful for that..I don’t know what I would’ve done without you and Alaisa Dalton! Thank you and god bless each and everyone one you…
I retained Robert James Trial Attorneys in mid-April 2026 to represent a family member facing serious felony charges in Clayton County. From the very beginning, the level of service was shockingly inadequate.
The attorney assigned to the case filed only a single Motion for Bond and appeared in court once — when the case had been erroneously scheduled in the wrong court. Despite being provided with strong exculpatory evidence (three months of text messages and video footage directly contradicting the accuser’s claims) on April 29, 2026, the attorney claimed he forwarded it to the prosecutor but took no further action and never followed up in person. He remained largely unresponsive to calls and texts from the designated family contact for weeks.
Two separate bond hearings were scheduled and then removed from the docket with no explanation. The attorney did not catch or correct these errors. I, the client’s uncle, had to personally intervene from out of state to contact the judge’s calendar clerk and secure a proper bond hearing date. Meanwhile, my family member remained detained for over two months as a first-time offender, lost two jobs, and was exposed to repeated violence inside the Clayton County Jail.
When the case was finally threatened with termination, the attorney suddenly became motivated to visit the prosecutor’s office — only to discover the case had been reassigned to a different ADA. Even then, promised follow-up visits to the jail and prosecutor never happened.
This firm’s inaction turned a winnable case into prolonged, unnecessary detention. Zero communication, zero initiative, and zero results. I would never recommend Robert James Trial Attorneys to anyone. Save yourself the frustration and find counsel who actually fights for their clients.
This is one of the best firms I’ve ever had to use. I’ve unfortunately have had to hire a firm three times, one for my issue and two for my son.
Robert James Atty’s timeliness was above my expectations. And the Client Consciege David, is amazing. He kept me abreast of my case every step of the way, which is unheard of with most companies, whether they be law firms or other types.
He called me at times when I was available and left DETAILED messages if I did not answer. I never had to call him back to ask for clarity. He would always provide my case number, which made me comforted that he was invested in me.
I would, and have referred this firm to friends and family. They are caring and truly understanding of the angst a person is dealing with, when going through something criminal.

I highly recommend Mel La’Vergne for anyone seeking dedicated and professional legal representation. He is hardworking, dependable, and truly care about his clients. Mel’s communication skills are outstanding — always keeping me informed, answering questions promptly, and explaining everything clearly throughout the process. A wonderful attorney who goes above and beyond for his clients.
After expressing how I feel about how they handled the case, attorney Mel has decided to remove himself, after $31,500. In your feelings behind facts is no place for a lawyer, the only way to get a response from him is to hurt his feelings with respectful facts. But to get any kind of response from him without rage baiting is impossible and that’s crazy. Nothing but emotional responses nothing helpful at all. Then just keep talking about these surgeries, if he do hurt what’s the point in working for a firm? Yall contacted him about reviews nobody has answered my questions still smh
I hired Robert James Trial Attorneys, and to say the least, my experience with them was an absolute nightmare. Three times, I was left hanging because no one showed up to represent me in court after I had already paid them in full.
Mel Laverne was my original attorney, but after multiple requests for a refund were ignored, I was assigned another attorney. I received false promises from him so that I would hire the firm. I ended up sitting in jail for 12 months after being told I would only be there for a few months at most.
Prior to my dissatisfaction, I also referred someone to hire this company the same month that I hired them for my own case. I was promised that I would receive a discount for the referral, but I am now being told there is no record of it because the person who handled the referral no longer works for the company.
I feel that once I paid for their services in full, they didn’t take my case as seriously as they would have if I hadn’t paid in full.
David Simmons provided exceptional service. Mr. Simmons was knowledgeable and he explained the process with great expertise and professionalism, when I asked questions relating to my case. All information Mr. Simmons and Mr. James provided was very helpful and resourceful. The cost of services were a lot reasonable than other firms that I had previously reached out to.
I didn't know how but I prayed for a way to not have to sit in county jail for a full year. Then I remembered that I have a friend ( David Simmons) who works at Mr. James' law office. After a visit from my sister, I had her to contact him and see if the firm could do anything to help in my case. Well it pays to have friends who can reach others such as Mr. James or his team. Because I didn't have to wait for a full year to go before the judge but I only had to spend two weeks in lockup. I am truly thankful for their help and I have most definitely turned a new Leaf in my life and try my best to remain a law abiding citizen presently.
