Two small pieces of free, thoughtful advice during a residency lunch-and-learn are helping save my family legacy years later.
As a resident, Max Adams encouraged us to get disability insurance, have an attorney review our employment contracts, and structure our businesses in a way that protects our future, our children’s future, and future generations. At the time, those recommendations seemed simple. Today, I understand just how valuable they were.
As a woman physician, business owner, and mother, I was the person who thought, “That won’t happen to me.” I said no to the prenup. I said no to the postnup. Like many women, I was focused on building a life, not protecting it. Years later, the lessons Max taught me are helping protect my business, my ability to support my daughter, and everything I’ve worked so hard to build.
