I hired Roy J. Smith of The Smith Law Firm after he took over my case from a prior attorney. Unfortunately, he filed a Notice of Trial without being prepared to proceed. He did not adequately review the previous attorney's filings or work, nor did he clearly communicate what was needed from me to properly prepare for trial.
Despite being paid, my case was not moved forward in a meaningful or timely manner. I later learned that concerns I had were similar to experiences I had already faced with my previous attorney, including a lack of aggressiveness and follow-through.
When I raised concerns about the lack of performance and asked about motions he was hired and billed me to file, his response was unprofessional. After being called out for not fulfilling his responsibilities, those motions were never filed.
Based on my experience, I would highly NOT recommend this attorney. I am out of thousands of dollars with still not trial date set; no required documents filed with the court and have to start all over again with another attorney.
BE CAREFUL WHEN HIRING DIVORCE ATTORNEYS!! THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY!!!!
Terrible service. If I could give zero stars I would. Roy Smith is disrespectful. He needs to understand he’s a man and just because he’s a lawyer doesn’t mean he can talk to a grown woman like a child. He’s already been saying false things and poking to get a reaction out of people which isn’t okay! I would NOT recommend him as a family attorney. He’s just been making my situation much worse. I’m studying to be a lawyer and we’ve definitely been getting taught to NOT follow Mr. Smith’s actions while studying. Hopefully he can maybe retake a class or one of his coworkers can help him on customer service:)
Roy Smith is more than just a top-tier divorce attorney — he truly cares.
My divorce was long and complicated, stretching nearly four years. My ex went through four different attorneys and made outrageous demands, but Roy stayed steady, strategic, and focused on protecting my interests. He knew the judge and opposing counsel well and used that insight to present my case most effectively.
Roy fought hard for me and gave me wise counsel on what battles to fight and what to let go of — and that strategy paid off. He negotiated a final settlement that was clearly in my favor: lower alimony than expected with a 3-year exit clause, plus a court order for my ex to reimburse me thousands in expenses and pay off a very large Visa bill.
But what truly sets Roy apart is that over those four years, he became more than just my attorney — he became a friend. He was there to calm me during the most stressful moments, and he regularly checked in on me as I went through cancer treatment and dealt with heart issues. That kind of compassion is rare, and I’ll never forget it.
I’m deeply grateful to Roy for helping me win my case and for being a faithful ally during one of the hardest chapters of my life.
Roy was fantastic. He was knowledgeable and answered all my questions. I didn't even have to speak at the hearing - he spoke for me, and the result was a success. Thank you Mr. Smith!
I was referred to The Smith Family Law Firm by a close friend. I was in need of attorney's I could trust when filing and navigating the difficult divorce process. Lisa and her husband Roy were there for me during the most vulnerable time of my life, to date, and I cannot thank them enough for the guidance and support I received. I would highly recommend The Smith Family Law Firm to anyone in need of their services because I believe, from first hand experience, they are the best in their field. Thank you again Lisa and Roy!
My time with this firm has been a great experience so far. They are very professional and communication is great! I also feel like they actually care about my case and listen to my needs. Highly recommended!
**⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 Stars – Highly Recommend Roy at Smith Family Law Firm**
I came to Roy after months of feeling stuck and unheard in my paternity and custody case. As a single father fighting to be part of my daughter’s life, I was overwhelmed by legal delays, endless mediation attempts, and a system that often felt stacked against dads like me. My previous attorney seemed more interested in having me overpay child support/giving up than actually fighting for my rights or helping me rebuild my relationship with my daughter.
Switching to Roy was the best decision I made. From the start, he was responsive, direct, and truly advocated for me. He accelerated my case after months of stagnation, always answered my questions quickly, and didn’t hesitate to be firm with the opposing counsel. Even when mediation failed (after multiple attempts), Roy was prepared and ready to take my case in front of the judge.
While the outcome wasn’t everything I hoped for—nothing can replace the time I lost with my daughter—Roy helped me secure a fair child support arrangement, a 50/50 weekly rotation, and, to my surprise, sole authority on final medical and school decisions. I went into court expecting the worst, but Roy’s preparation and focus helped me achieve more than I thought possible.
The family court system is slowww and often frustrating, but Roy made me feel supported and heard every step of the way. If you’re a parent (especially a father) feeling lost in the system, I can’t recommend Roy and Smith Family Law Firm enough. He genuinely cares, fights for you, and he get results.
Thank you, Roy, for helping me move forward and for giving me hope to rebuild my relationship with my daughter. Couldn’t have done it without you!!!
Best decision I made was hiring Lisa Smith as my attorney. I’ve worked with Lisa in the past on two different occasions. Lisa is a hard-working professional attorney who provided great legal advice, was easy to work with, always made time to answer my questions and very thorough. Lisa I am forever grateful, thank you for all you do. I highly recommend the Smith Family Law Firm.
I would like to publicly thank Lisa for all the hard work, great legal advice, and walking me through the complexities of the family law process. Lisa fought on my behalf and worked hard to get a settlement that I can move on from. Both Lisa and Roy worked well with the opposing counsel and very professional during the court proceedings.
Lisa, on the behalf of me and my family, thank you for all you do. I will always recommend your law firm to anyone who needs family law advice.

Without the help of the entire Smith Family Law Firm, I know that I would not have had the successful outcomes I have had these past 5 years. Roy took on an extremely difficult case with more twists, turns, and bumps than a telenovela but always had answers for them all. Roy worked tirelessly to make sure that the truth was told and presented flawlessly. Roy has stood by every one of my requests and guided me through the entire lengthy custody process. Though we faced challenges, Roy never faltered. Roy's thorough knowledge provided us the pathway we needed to rise to victory. I will only recommend the Smith Family Law Firm as I know first-hand how important it is to have the best representation on your side. Roy fought valiantly for my daughter like she was his own. I am proud to be a Smith Family Law Firm client and will continue to retain them for all legal matters that may arise as I know I am in the best hands.
I'm forever grateful for Roy and the service of his team. I worked with Roy for about 8 years on two major cases, both cases were of extreme circumstances that didn't look well for me and my family. Both times Roy provided results that exceeded anything I could imagine as a possibility. At all times, he kept the best interest of the children as the top priority. He used finesse when appropriate and was aggressive when appropriate.
Roy was thorough, competent, timely, professional, and reliable at all times. There was never a point when I felt like I should have hired someone else or that the cost of service was not worth what I was receiving. If I happen to be in another bind, the Smith Family Law Firm would be at the top of the list to handle my case.
