Walter is very knowledgeable but you can't get a hold of him directly. He WILL NOT give you his email. His receptionist Riley who is very sweet said "we don't give out his email, send it to me and I will forward ". His legal assistant Jennifer Ake is also knowledgeable but she hasnt given me a clear answer on what papers the caseworker needed and ive asked her every week since Feb 7th, and today is the 28th.. She said if we don't get this in my Mother could lose her spot. I asked her this past Thursday to be cc'd on important correspondence with the Medicaid caseworker and i was not. I left a message on Friday becausei was not cc'd. I called the following Tuesday to follow up and Riley says she forgot to give Jennifer the message that I called Friday. I have paid $4800 for his practice to complete my Mother's Medicaid paperwork.... I find it very disconcerting that when I've had multiple conversations with Jennifer, that their response is "I can't have his email" . My advice, get your contact info from him 1st, or only pay him half now, and half After he finishes the job you paid him for. Update to his 2 years later response 6/6/2025: I just recieved after 2 years a response from this office on my above review. This wasn't about me wanting to discuss this "only" via email. I called your office, and you wouldn't talk to me to address your assistants lack of duty unless I made an appointment with you at $350 per hour. My attorney looked up your contact info and informed me it's ILLEGAL for you to not have a working email address and I could have reported you to the board. I also didn't mention that while I was there with my Mother, you had a Man walk into your office to Yell at your assistant for not calling him back. Hmmm, I experienced that too. Your 2 years too late Walter. For anyone wanting to use Walter, DO NOT USE the Guardian pooled trust. They take 2-3 days to return calls and only work 3-4 days a week and are in office less than banker hours. Horrible people to deal with.
Owner response
Communication with the client is critical. That's why I converse with clients at scheduled in-person face-to-face meetings, or over the phone. Email just won't do for answering all but the most basic of questions, like scheduling, and my assistant does that.

Walter’s approach for reviewing Medicaid eligibility was diligent and well organized. He was able to address all my questions in a clear and concise manner. He explained all the various considerations and provided an overview of the Medicaid landscape in Florida. I had a follow up question and he followed up promptly. Easy to talk to and kept his answers in layman’s terms without legalese.
Owner response
Kenneth, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I am glad you felt things went well.

Sorry this review took awhile, with the holidays I've been really busy, but I want EVERYONE to know this man Is very compassionate about your situation. he took the time to explain everything in detail what I was up against. He also advised me that if my husband was turned down for medicaid to contact him and he would help me get my husband on medicaid. I recommend anyone facing the challenge of the system to hire this attorney and know that you are in good hands.
Owner response
Thank you, Judy, for your kind words. I am so glad I was able to help!

He is very knowledgeable but no people skills, my mom was very upset most of the meetings so I went for support. She paid almost $5k and my dad passed before anything was even done. Not only did he not offer a dime back the office didn’t even mail a sympathy card. For a professional in the business for so long who works with the elderly “helping” families you would think a card at the very very least would be mailed. Nothing. My professional opinion: don’t waste your money, or time. Rehabs and/or ALF’s have case workers who will help you as part of their job and will show empathy and support. The lack of empathy, and unprofessionalizm is not ok and not worth adding to the already overwhelming stressful session of life.
Owner response
We're truly sorry to hear about your experience, Kelly. Our aim is to provide the best services with empathy and support, and we deeply regret that we fell short in your case. Your comment prompts us to reflect on our practices to understand how we can better serve our clients in the future. Our deepest condolences for your loss. Thank you for taking the time to share your honest perspective.

Walt Shurden was highly recommended to our family at a pivotal moment in our Mom’s rapidly declining health. He was able to help us navigate the the best financial path forward for our mother’s care while at the same time allowing us to focus on spending critical time needed with our Mom as we rallied to nurse her back to health. It was very clear to us, this is not just Mr. Shurden’s job, caring for the elderly is truly his passion. He exceeded our expectations and ultimately helped transition our Mom to Medicaid which assured she would be given the medical care she needs for the remainder of life. Walt Shurden didn’t just provide a service, he provided peace of mind.
Owner response
Thank you so much for your kind feedback.

Hands down it's the friendliest law office I've ever dealt with. When you're having struggles with loved ones and nursing care these are the people to see. Years and years of experience! I didn't have to pay for a consult either.
Owner response
Thanks for the great review. Very friendly of you.
