I am not going to mention names here because the firm is aware of who represented me, but the whole experience did not meet my expectations. Several people who were aware of my communications with my counsel were shocked at how unsupportive they were at times. They were also not prepared for the complexities of my case but did not suggest finding more qualified counsel instead, even after I asked if I should consider other options. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find alternate counsel by the time I realized how bad the situation was and a change at that point would have put an agreement, that I ended up having to negotiate and structure myself, at risk of falling apart. That was made worse by the fact the case was unnecessarily extended in time and cost by not being prioritized either as needed or as advertised. I hired another firm and lawyer in parallel for a separate family law matter and the experience was night and day different in terms of competence, professionalism, and empathy. Aside from my subjective experience, they charged me to fix at least one mistake that was caused by the firm, which feels borderline unethical. I contacted the firm’s principal directly and did seem to see some improvement following that, but never got a direct response or any kind of contrition. When I paid my final balance and gave feedback about the concerns I had with how the case was wrapped up, I got no response from my counsel (the paralegal did thoroughly look into and provide context on one of my two concerns, to their individual credit). In my professional line of work this would be completely unacceptable behavior. To be fair, the case did turn out to be more complex than I first expected, but if you are in over your head you ask for help or admit you can’t handle it instead of dragging clients along.

After 5 years hiring multiple attorneys in an attempt to bring resolution in a nasty divorce case, I finally contacted Brewe Layman and within 30 days it was resolved. Brewe Layman was easily the best firm I've hired. They were the most attentive, easily the best value and by far and away the most effective. Thank you, Kelli. What a horrible, horrible person. I’d give zero stars if I could. I am still in shock over how I was treated. Would not recommend to anyone.
